When I first met Mark Carlson, president of (then named) IMS/Minnesota, a leading distributor of mailing equipment and supplies, he had these burning questions:

• What marketing improvements are needed to take this company further?
• Does the company’s brand need a facelift?

I promised him we’d get to the bottom of these marketing issues as we developed a marketing plan for his company.

As we worked through the marketing planning process, I led 5 marketing strategy sessions with company executives, interviewed 3 customers, and conducted a variety of sales and service staff interviews. One key finding during this marketing process was that the company’s current brand identity, specifically its name and logo, needed strengthening.

So we set about reinventing the company’s brand.

We developed a new name for the company, Minnesota Mailing Systems. Then, working with a graphic designer, a new logo was developed. We also crafted a new company tagline “Pushing the envelope …with ease. Finally, we developed marketing messages that the company would use throughout all its marketing campaigns.
