Market Scouting

Last fall, Ed Rudis, President/COO and Tammi Phippen, Marketing Manager for Smarte Carte, Inc. contacted me about a market-scouting project. The company, widely known for its line of airport baggage carts, had developed a new locker using smart technology.

The Problems
With this new product, Ed and Tammi wanted to expand locker distribution into 3 new markets: Amusement Parks, Ski Areas and Waterparks. But before this could he done, the company needed to establish each market's size and growth potential, barriers to entry and competitive sets.

The Solutions
Using a variety of primary and secondary research methods, I developed the baseline information for each market. Then working with a telephone researcher, we conducted in-depth interviews with 14 buyers in these markets. I then compiled and presented the detailed findings to domestic and international executives in the management team.

The Benefits
In the end, Emerge provided:

  • A comprehensive study for Smarte Carte's executives & board members
  • An unbiased marketing perspective
  • Momentum to keep the project on-track
